E.M. (Yeti) Agnew B.Sc., J.D. Solicitor, Notary Public
E.M. (Yeti) Agnew is a lawyer with a mission: to practise Law...with Understanding. She believes that clients have a right to be heard and so lawyers should listen...with understanding. She believes that lawyers have an obligation to communicate with their clients so clients can understand. Further she wants to empower her clients with understanding so they can operate with more confidence in an increasingly sophisticated world.
Yeti believes in an holistic approach to the practice of law and also in having fun while practising. So, she has played on her nickname (which is the French word for abominable snowman) and developed the metaphor of having a team of Legal Sherpas assist her explorer clients through different areas of the Himalayas of Law. It is no surprise that Yeti has been named a Trailblazer by the University of Toronto Law School.
Yeti's family includes her husband of 33 years, Chris, her son and daughter, and her stepson. She is also an honorary parent and grandparent.
Yeti attended Neuchâtel Junior College and then studied Applied Chemistry at the University of Waterloo and law at the University of Toronto. Yeti was called to the bar in 1975. She is a former Trustee of the Royal Ontario Museum, Governor of the University of Waterloo, and Trustee of the University of Waterloo Foundation. She presently devotes her charitable time as a founding director of the Musagetes Foundation.
She was recognized as one of 50 Distinguished Alumni by the University of Waterloo Alumni Council on the occasion of the University's 50th anniversary and one of 50 Alumni of Honour by the Waterloo Faculty of Science.
Yeti has an active interest in museums and art galleries, and is a recognised specialist in law related to collections. Yeti has written numerous articles for various publications and had 2 books published: Legaleasy - a step-by-step legal guide to collecting for Canadian art galleries and museums; and The Art World - Law, Business and Practice in Canada, co-authored with Aaron Milrad.
She has completed 6 marathons and recently obtained her ski instructor CSIA Level 1 certification.
